We cover both micro- and macro-evolution of all types of organisms. The specialisation in Evolutionary Biology, within the Master's Programme in Biology, is characterised by the integration of field studies, laboratory and theoretical studies. We do this by bringing together underlying disciplines that have traditionally been separated, such as molecular genetics and ecology. Definition of evolutionary biology : a discipline of biology concerned with the processes and patterns of biological evolution especially in relation to the diversity of organisms and how they change over time Speciation still remains one of the biggest mysteries in evolutionary biology. — Bob Holmes — see evolutionary developmental biology Evolutionary psychology is not simply a subdiscipline of psychology — its evolutionary theory can provide a foundational, metatheoretical framework that integrates the entire field of psychology in the same way evolutionary biology has for biology. Evolutionary psychologists hold that behaviors or traits that occur universally in all cultures Therefore, evolutionary thinking has come into focus also for subjects such as ecology, developmental biology, biogeography, phylogenetics and, more recently, epidemiology, immunology, genomics, bioinformatics, and systems biology. In addition, evolutionary thinking is gaining a strong foothold in non-biological disciplines such as economics 9 timmar sedan · Evolutionary Biology.

Evolutionary biology

Life on Earth evolved gradually beginning with one primitive species—perhaps a self-replicating molecule—that lived more than 3.5 billion years ago; it then branched out over time, throwing off many new and diverse species; and the mechanism for most (but not all) of evolutionary change is natural selection. Part of a series on Evolutionary biology Darwin's finches by John Gould Key topics Introduction to evolution Common descent Evidence Processes and outcomes Population genetics Variation Diversity Mutation Natural selection Adaptation Polymorphism Genetic drift Gene flow Speciation Adaptive radiation Co-operation Coevolution Coextinction Divergence Convergence Parallel evolution Extinction BMC Ecology and Evolution is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles on all aspects of evolution and ecology, including, but not limited to, molecular and non-molecular evolution, population genetics and phylogenetics, conservation genetics, palaeontology, behavioral and population ecology, macroecology, ecological and evolutionary developmental biology and biodiversity (including environmental DNA) Thus evolutionary biology is both central and unifying for all of biology. The evolutionary biology area of concentration provides the basic core knowledge for beginning graduate studies in evolutionary ecology, evolutionary developmental biology, evolution of behavior, evolutionary psychology, systematics, paleobiology, molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, philosophy of biology, and both micro- and macroevolutionary studies generally. The Journal of Evolutionary Biology is a bimonthly, peer-reviewed, international journal.
